I was in Silicon Valley in 2005. I went to Intalio, but also met some execs at PeopleSoft. What really floored me back then was the way the Americans invest in projects, willing to write off 9 out of 10 because if they picked well, the 10th would give them a nice big return. I’d heard of the way startups got funding, and was interested in incubators, but never imagined the scale and pace of investment.
